A Fox By Any Other Name
The locals will tell you this is a red fox. That's the English name it's given down in Patagonia (in Spanish it's called "zorro colorado"). However, it's not the same species as the red foxes we're familiar with in the northern hemisphere.

In fact, it's a culpeo, a species of wild dog. With a close-up view, the differences between the species are pretty apparent. The culpeo is larger, and the males especially have much stockier features than our foxes.
