Stewart Island Robin
Petroica australis rakiura
It may not look spectacular, but the Stewart Island Robin is one of the rarer species on Stewart and Ulva Islands. A small number of the birds were released recently on Ulva Island, but only after 18 months of extensive trapping to eliminate rats from the island.
